School Meals and School Snack

The school has National Healthy Schools Status and we operate a healthy eating policy and have worked closely with our school meals provider to ensure that your child can eat healthily every day. School lunches, which are prepared on the premises, are on a three week rotation; baked potatoes and salads are available daily as well as other home cooked choices. Children may bring a packed lunch if you prefer and we appreciate parents / carers support in ensuring that the contents are in line with the school’s healthy eating policy. The menu that we are currently following is attached to this page. If you have any concerns or questions about the meals provided then please come and speak to the office staff. From September 2014 all infant children (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) are entiltled to a free school meal.

Key Stage 2 (Year 3-6) parents wishing to apply for free school meals should complete the form on the School Website or contact Warrington Borough Council Admissions/School Meals Department on telephone number: 01925 446226 or email: schooladmissions@warrington.gov.uk.

Upon joining the school all children are provided with a water bottle. We ask that these are refilled on a daily basis and we give the children access to them throughout the day. All children wishing to have a mid morning snack are requested to purchase it from school. The choices currently available are: toast, crumpet, fresh fruit, water and milk. All infant children are provided with a piece of fresh fruit every day which is eaten in the afternoon. Free milk is also given to children in our Reception class until they reach the age of 5.  At Appleton Thorn Primary School, we do allow children to bring in their own snacks and drinks at break time, however, we have a strict ‘fruit and water ONLY’ policy as we are a NUT & SEED FREE school.

All snacks and KS2 meals should be paid for on our new online payment system 'ParentPay'. An activation letter will be supplied to parents when your child starts school. Any queries with ParentPay please contact the School Office.
