“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato

Our musical aims for every child - Our Intent

We believe that music feeds our souls.  Pupils at Appleton Thorn Primary experience a rich and full spectrum of performances, learning opportunities and enrichments during their time here.  Our pupils love to sing together and we create a real sence of community during collective singing with a different musical anthem each term.  Children listen to a wide range of musical genres and artists, both in the classrooms and during assemblies.

Our curriculum supports carefully planned sequences of learning to enable pupils to show high levels of musical skills as they prepare for High School.  Many of our pupils take the opportunity to learn an instrument at a higher level through our perapatetic teachers

Impact

The impact of our excellent teaching of music is seen across the school with a high profile of music.  Whole-school and parental engagement continues to be high with whole school performances, extracurricular activities and opportunities for wider learning within lessons.  Participation in music develops wellbeing, promotes listening and developes concentration. Appleton Thorn Primary ensures that music is loved by teachers and pupils accross the school, encourageing children to want to continue building on this wealth of musical ability, now and in the future.
